Student/Postdoc Travel Awards

The IEEE Information Theory Society is sponsoring a limited number of travel grants to support students and postdocs who would like to travel to Mumbai to attend the 2022 IEEE Information Theory Workshop (ITW 2022) in person. Preference will be given to student/postdoc members of the IEEE Information Theory Society, who will be presenting their papers in person at the ITW. Students/postdocs from under-represented groups (in particular, women) are especially encouraged to apply.  

The travel grants will be in the form of registration fee waivers (or refunds if registration fees have already been paid) and local accommodation arrangements. Travel grant awardees will be given four nights of accommodation (November 5-9) in a nearby hotel. Accommodation will be given on a twin-sharing basis with another travel grant awardee. We will, unfortunately, not be able to accommodate partners or significant others. But we may be able to make an exception for student/postdoc attendees who are travelling with small children.  

For logistical reasons, we are not able to use these grants to reimburse airfare or other travel expenses. Also, the travel award only covers a waiver/refund of the registration fee, not of the paper charge of $100 per paper.  

Please fill and submit this form if you would like to apply for a travel grant for attending ITW 2022 in person. In parallel, please ask your research supervisor/mentor to email a brief reference letter to travelgrants@itw2022.in. The letter should address the issue of why you require funding to attend the ITW in person.

The deadline for submission of the travel grants application form is Monday, August 29, 2022. Reference letters must reach travelgrants@itw2022.in by September 10, 2022. 

IMPORTANT: If you are applying for a travel award, then please DO NOT pay the applicable in-person registration fees for attending the ITW in person until the awards are announced. Reimbursement of registration fees, once paid, may take a long time. You must still register and pay the applicable paper charges ($100 per paper) prior to August 29, 2022. As noted above, the travel awards do not cover paper charges.
